The Miami Marlins have signed free agent third baseman Casey McGehee to a one-year deal for $1.1 million. He played last season in Japan instead of in the major leagues. He had 27 home runs and batted .289 with the Rakuten Golden Eagles in 2013.
McGehee played one season with the Chicago Cubs in 2008 and had 5 RBI and a .167 batting average in nine games. He moved on to the Milwaukee Brewers from 2009 until 2011. His best season there was in 2010 when he blasted 23 home runs with 104 RBI, .285 batting average and a .801 OPS.
He was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates prior to the 2012 season and compiled eight home runs, 35 RBI and a batting average of .230 in 92 games. McGehee was then dealt later that season to the New York Yankees where he played 22 games and had one home run with 6 RBI and a meager .151 batting average.
