The Florida Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak as they beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 on Sunday at BB&T Center. The Cats are halfway through their home schedule this season and have a record of 8-9-3 in Sunrise.
The Panthers got the only goal in the first period to take the lead on a 4-on-4 situation. Tomas Fleischmann passed the puck from the slot area and Dmitry Kulikov put in a one-time wrist shot from the left circle for second goal this season at 6:10.
Montreal(23-14-3) responded early in the second period to even the game at 2:56. Raphael Diaz took a soft shot from the right point that was stopped by Brendan Prust in the slot area. He made turnaround shot that went between the legs of Scott Clemmensen to tie it at 1-1.
Florida(15-20-5) countered with a goal at 4:51 and regained the margin 2-1. Brian Campbell fired a slapshot from the high slot that went off Peter Budaj up in the air and landed off the right post into the cage.
Campbell added his second goal of the game and sixth of the season with 5:31 left in the second. Tom Gilbert and Brad Boyes had assists on both Cats goals during the second period.
Sean Bergenheim would score an empty-net goal with 17 seconds to go in the third period to give Florida the victory over the Habs. He kept a three-game goal streak alive with his eighth goal this year.
