Capitals Overcome Panthers

The Florida Panthers made a rare one-game road trip to Washington D.C. and fell to the Capitals 4-2 at Verizon Center on Saturday night. Florida(5-6-1) held a 2-1 advantage early in the third period until Washington(8-2-1) scored three times during the frame to take the victory. The Cats dropped to last place in the Atlantic Division with the defeat.
The Panthers got ahead 2-1 at 2:52 of the third period on a power-play goal by Reilly Smith. He went around John Karlsson in the left circle, headed for the crease and put a backhand shot by Braden Holtby.
The Capitals mounted a comeback for the remainder of the period. Alex Ovechkin got his seventh goal of the season when he redirected the puck in the slot area after Brooks Orpik shot the puck from the blue line at 8:42. T.J. Oshie picked up the game-winning goal at 10:58 and Lars Eller added a tally against Roberto Luongo at 13:27.
