The Chaminade-Madonna Lions easily defeated the Cardinal Newman Crusaders 42-0 on Friday at Vince Zappone Field in a Class 3A regional semifinal. The Lions will host the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves next week.
Chaminade-Madonna(8-3) mounted 28 points during the first quarter. Running back Shaun Shivers began the scoring on a 50-yard rushing play at 10:24. He would add another touchdown run several minutes later.
They extended their margin on a naked bookleg to the left side from three yards out by quarterback Henry Columbi at the 1:25 mark. Columbi capped the first quarter with 27.1 seconds left when he threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Carlton Williams.
Cardinal Newman(5-5) surrendered another touchdown at 6:13 of the second quarter. Shivers rambled through the left side and scored from 65 yards away for his third touchdown of the game to make it 35-0.
A running clock was used for the entire second half. Columbi connected with Williams on a 25-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
