The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders travel to Miami and face the Mater Academy Charter Lions on Friday night in a Class 7A regional final. Both schools met in the same round last year and the Raiders were victorious.
St. Thomas Aquinas(9-2) had no problems in the FHSAA playoffs this postseason as they were up 27-0 at halftime in their previous two playoff games. They destroyed Palm Beach Lakes 35-0 in the regional quarterfinal and advanced past the regional semifinal for the 13rd consecutive year with a 37-0 victory over Dwyer.
The Raiders are led on offense by University of Florida commit and quarterback Jake Allen. He has numerous targets to pass the ball to which includes Michael Harley, Joshua Palmer, Jonathan Moore and Jordan Merrell. Running backs Michael Epstein and Kyshaun Bryan will get their opportunities to carry the ball.
Mater Academy(11-1) have won their last 11 games since they lost their season opener to Miramar. They held off Cooper City with a 35-21 win in a regional quarterfinal and received a scare to barely get by McArthur 14-13 in a regional semifinal.
Rocco Casullo is the head coach of the Lions and formerly was the head coach for St. Thomas Aquinas for four years. He led STA to two FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2012 and 2014. Quarterback Kaywon Hanna will look to find wide receivers Travon Roberts and LiQundre Gallimore downfield.
