Nick Bjugstad made his season debut with the Florida Panthers as they fell to the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1 at BB&T Center on Tuesday night. The Panthers had won their last three meetings against the Flyers in Sunrise. The Cats returned home following a four-game road trip.
Wayne Simmonds was able to get an unassisted goal at 11:11 of the first period for Philadelphia(9-8-3). He skated to the right-circle dot and blasted a slapshot by Roberto Luongo for his 10th goal of the year.
In the second period, the Flyers got their first power play of the contest and they converted it at 13:03. Travis Konecny came in on a 2-on-1 through the left circle and fired a snap shot which Luongo made the save. Dale Weise backhanded in the rebound from the low slot for his first goal as a Philadelphia Flyer to make it 2-0.
Florida(10-9-1) surrendered another power-play goal at 7:04 of the third period as the Flyers made it 2-for-2 on the man-advantage. Simmonds brought puck in from the left wing and connected a cross-ice pass to Nick Cousins in the slot area. He than lifted a wrist shot over the right shoulder of Luongo for his third tally of the season.
The Panthers broke the shutout with 1:51 remaining in the game. Jonathan Marchessault released a shot from the left wing which was redirected in by Reilly Smith from the slot past Steve Mason.
