Cardinals Rout Marlins

The St. Louis Cardinals easily handled the Miami Marlins 9-0 at Busch Stadium on Monday night. It was the start of a seven-game road trip for the Marlins.
Miami(33-39) was shut out for the fifth time in the 2022 season and the fourth time on the road. Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright chalked up his eighth career victory over the Fish.
St. Louis(42-34) took the lead three batters into their lineup. Paul Goldschmidt smashed a solo home run to left field on a 1-0 pitch for his 19th homer of the season.
The Cardinals made it 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Juan Yepez belted a three-run homer to left field on a 2-2 count for his eighth home run this season. Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman both scored in front of him on the play.
It became 5-0 for the Cards in the fifth inning. Goldschmidt knocked in Tommy Edman on a double to deep center.
The Marlins surrendered two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 7-0. Yepez hit a two-run homer to left-center field on a 1-0 pitch with Dylan Carlson aboard for second home run of the contest. Yepez ended up with five runs batted in for a career-high for him.
In the eighth inning, St. Louis scored twice. Carlson tripled to right field and Gorman crossed the plate. Carlson would later score on a wild pitch for a nine-run lead.
