Roberto Luongo Elected To Hockey Hall Of Fame

Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday. Luongo will be the first player who spent the majority of his playing career with the Florida Panthers. The induction ceremony will be held in Toronto this November 14.
Luongo joined the Panthers when he was traded along with Olli Jokinen from the New York Islanders in June 2000. He spent six seasons with Florida in his first stint with the team.
He was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in June 2006. Luongo led the club to a Western Conference Championship in 2011. They fell to the Boston Bruins in seven games during the Stanley Cup Final. He was reacquired by the Panthers in March 2014 and helped them win the Atlantic Division title in 2015-16.
Luongo leads the Florida Panthers franchise in almost all goalie categories which includes wins, saves and shutouts. Luongo was third all-time in goalie victories with 489 wins and second all-time with 28,409 saves in National Hockey League history when he retired in 2019.
He was the first goalie to be named a captain by the Canucks in 2008. Luongo was on the Canada Olympic hockey team during three occasions. He won two Olympic gold medals as a starting goalie in 2010 and backup goalie in 2014.
