The Rockledge Raiders host the American Heritage Patriots in a Class 5A regional semifinal on Friday night. The Patriots topped the Raiders 31-14 in a 2018 regional semifinal for their only meeting between both schools.
American Heritage(7-2) ended the three-year title reign of the FHSAA Class 5A state champions Miami Northwestern last week with a 12-3 victory. They drilled Palm Bay 49-0 in a play-in contest prior to that. The Patriots, who last captured a state title in 2017, have outscored their opponents 214-95 this season. They will use running backs Mark Fletcher and Jerry Dinkins on rushing opportunities. Quarterback Blake Murphy can toss the pass to wide receivers Orande Gadsden II, Nicholas Whitton, Vinson Davis III, Michael Watkins III and Emory Clemons.
Rockledge(7-1) won their first five games of the 2020 campaign and then lost their regular season finale to Cocoa. They got a forfeit win over DeSoto County in a play-in game and a 62-0 blowout victory over Estero in the regional quarterfinal last week. The Raiders have outscored their opponents 309-77 this season. Running backs Avery Smith, Jalen Housey and Bryce Norton can carry the ball. Wide receivers Raheim Sanders, Rian Black and James Lowder look to make catches from quarterback Elias Allen.
