The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders take on the Manatee Hurricanes in Bradenton on Friday night in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal. Both schools met each other five times in the postseason between 2005 and 2012.
St. Thomas Aquinas(4-1) will be playing a second straight road playoff game to begin the postseason. The team has not been in that situation in over 20 years. Dual quarterback Zion Turner can run with the ball and pass to wide receivers Bralon Brown and Quincy Skinner Jr. Running backs Anthony Hankerson and Corey Reddick will get their rushing opportunities.
Manatee(8-1) was undefeated for six games until they were upset by Southeast in their regular season finale. The Hurricanes took Lakewood Ranch 51-14 in a play-in contest and topped Martin County 35-21 in a regional quarterfinal. They have outscored their opponents 307-193 this season. Quarterback Jayce Berzowski intends to find wide receivers Jayden Corbett, Ty Nevels, Irone Jackson and Erion Neri down the field. Manatee has several options at running back with Kyree Jones, Jabari Dunbar and Roy Butchett.
