The Boston Celtics outlasted the Miami Heat in game four 93-91 on Sunday night at TD Garden. The series is now tied at 2-2 with game five in Miami on Tuesday night. LeBron James poured in 29 points and Dwyane Wade contributed 20 points and 7 rebounds for the Heat. Six Celtics had double figures in scoring as Paul Pierce knocked down 23.
Both teams combined for only six points in overtime. Pierce fouled out at the 4:25 mark. Miami's only field goal and lead in the extra session happened when Udonis Haslem drove across the lane with a slam dunk with 3:30 left for a 91-89 lead.
Boston regained the lead 92-91 on a Rajon Rondo field goal at 2:32. James fouled out with an offensive foul with 1:51 left. It was the first time that had happen to him in two seasons with the Heat. Rondo added a free throw with 0:21 seconds to go. Wade pump-faked then fired a three-point shot that missed the mark at the buzzer.
The Celtics scored the first six points of the game. They led 18-4 just six minutes into the contest with a 10-0 run. The C's were up 34-23 after one quarter.
After Miami put in the first basket of the second quarter, the Celtics extended their lead to double digits. It reached a 17-point margin at 45-28 with 9:45 remaining in the half. The Heat were down 61-47 at halftime. It was the most points Miami had surrendered in a half this postseason. James had 19 points after two quarters while Paul Pierce garnered 18 points.
The Celtics had a 16-point lead early in the third quarter until Miami finished the stanza on an 18-8 run. The Heat cut the margin down to five points when Wade made a three-point shot with 29 seconds left in the quarter. Boston was up 73-68 after three quarters even though they were outscored 21-12. Wade had 17 points after the third.
Miami tied the game 74-74 with 8:53 left in the fourth quarter on a James lay-up. Norris Cole put in a field goal less than thirty seconds later for their first lead of the game at 76-74. It was part of a 27-9 spurt that stretched through the second half. Neither team led by more than three points for the rest of regulation. James hit a three-point shot from the right arc with 0:37 left to tie the game 89-89 and send it into overtime.
