It was a close game until the ninth inning when the Toronto Blue Jays put up six runs in the frame to defeat the Miami Marlins 7-1 on Saturday at Marlins Park. The Marlins have now lost 15 of their last 17 games. Both teams will finish the three-game series on Sunday.
Josh Johnson picked up no decision for Miami as he hurled seven innings and gave up only one run on two hits and seven strikeouts. Brett Cecil went six innings plus two batters for the Blue Jays and surrendered one run on five hits.
Toronto got the first run of the game in the second inning. Edwin Encarnacion and Kelly Johnson both walked and advanced one base when Yunel Escobar sacrificed to the pitcher. Rajai Davis put down a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher for Encarnacion to score.
Miami was able to tie the game in the sixth inning at 1-1. Justin Ruggiano led off with a bunt single down the third base line. Omar Infante doubled to left field as Ruggiano scored.
The Blue Jays pulled off a six-run rally in the ninth inning. Encarnacion blasted a lead-off home run to left field on a 1-2 count off Steve Cishek for the winning run. For Encarnacion it was his 21st homer this season.
Johnson followed with a single to center field and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Escobar. Davis was intentionally walked then Jeff Mathis got to first on a fielding error by Cishek with Johnson scoring on the play. Edward Mujica came in to relieve for Cishek. Omar Vizquel got on base with a fielder's choice as Davis was called out at home. Brett Lawrie was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
