The Miami Heat staved off elimination from the postseason as they blew out the Boston Celtics 98-79 in game six of the Eastern Conference Finals at the TD Garden on Thursday night. The series is tied at 3-3 with game seven on Saturday night at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. LeBron James played an impressive game for Miami as he had 45 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. Dwyane Wade poured in 17 points with eight rebounds. Rajon Rondo led the Celtics with 21 points and 10 assists.
Both teams played even through the first seven minutes of the game at 12-12. Miami finished with an 14-4 run to end the first quarter up 26-16. James scored more than half of Miami's points with 14 while Rondo put in half of Boston's points with eight.
The Heat were able to stretch the margin to 15 points when they led 40-25 with 7:16 left in the first half. Miami led 55-42 at halftime as James had 30 first-half points for his team and Rondo got 19 for the Celtics.
Boston gave up the first four points of the second half and fell behind by 17 points just two minutes in. The C's were down by double digits throughout the stanza. James had 41 points after three quarters and the Heat led 74-61.
Miami went on a 15-3 spurt at the beginning of the fourth quarter and extended their lead to 89-64 with 7:15 remaining. Boston head coach Doc Rivers pulled his starters midway through the quarter.
