The seventh annual Heath Evans 7-on-7 high school football tournament was played on the campus of The Kings Academy on Saturday. The tournament got to the semifinals during the afternoon when lightning and rain cancelled the rest of the tournament. The title will be shared by #3 Dwyer, #1 Booker T. Washington, #4 Miami Central and #5 Miami-Carol City.
The 16-team tournament were represented by schools from Palm Beach County, Broward County, Dade County, Tampa and Vero Beach. The #4 Tampa-Plant Panthers, 2011 FHSAA Class 8A state champions and defending Heath Evans tournament champs, were upset in the round of 16 by #13 Wellington. The other top-five seeds were able to advance through the round of 16 and the quarterfinals and shared the championship. All sixteen teams played in a round-robin that involved five divisions prior to noon.
