The Florida Panthers traded defenseman Erik Gudbranson and a 2016 fifth round pick to the Vancouver Canucks for center Jared McCann and two 2016 draft picks on Wednesday. Gudbranson, who was drafted in the first round as the third overall pick by Florida in 2010, just finished his fifth season with the club. He helped the team win two division titles in 2012 and 2016.
He was the second-line right defenseman for the Panthers in the last two seasons since Aaron Ekblad joined the team. Gudbranson compiled two goals. seven assists and a +3 plus/minus rating in 64 games last season.
McCann played in his rookie season with the Canucks and had nine goals and nine assists in 69 games. The Panthers also acquired a second round pick, 33th overall, and a fourth round pick for the upcoming 2016 NHL Draft in late June.
