Lake Worth Overcomes Wellington

The Lake Worth Trojans pulled off a comeback in the fourth quarter and got by the Wellington Wolverines 28-21 at Bill Harvey Stadium on Friday night. It was the final spring high school football game to be played in South Florida.
In the first quarter, Lake Worth moved the ball down the field on their second possession until the Wolverines made an interception at their own one-yard line. Trojans defensive back Wadney Louis intercepted a pass two plays later and returned it nine yards for a touchdown with 4:29 to go.
The second quarter belonged to Wellington as they compiled two touchdown passes by quarterback Ben Schmickle in consecutive drives to make it 14-7. He located wide receiver Jymetre Hester on the left side of the end zone for an 18-yard strike with 9:38 left and then he later threw an eight-yard pass to slot receiver D.J. Dobkins who was all alone in the right side of the end zone with 7:25 remaining in the first half.
The Trojans scored on the first play of the third quarter at 11:47 as the Wolverines backup quarterback Kevin Wright threw an interception toward the right sideline and defensive back James Bozeman returned it 30 yards for a touchdown to tie the contest 14-14.
Wellington regained the lead 21-14 with 8:30 left in the quarter as Dobkins caught his second touchdown of the game from nine yards out.
The Wolverines went for it on fourth down from their territory instead of punting several times in the fourth quarter and the Trojans made them pay each time. Wellington failed on a fourth down at their own 48-yard line with under nine minutes remaining. Quarterback Marquise Hicks ran up the middle from seven yards away with 5:15 to go for the tying touchdown and made it 21-21.
Wellington again failed to gain a first down on their next four plays to loss the ball on downs at their own 33-yard line. Lake Worth took the lead 28-21 with 2:47 left when Hicks rushed through the left side of the line for a four-yard touchdown. The Wolverines had one final possession and they were stopped on downs at their own 22-yard line with just over one minute remaining.
