The Miami Marlins wiped out the New York Mets for the second straight day as they pounded them 8-1 at Citi Field on Saturday night. The Marlins increased their winning streak to three games.
Miami(3-2) scored in each of the first three innings. Giancarlo Stanton knocked in Miguel Rojas with a single to left field in the first inning. Marcell Ozuna powered a solo home run to left on a 3-2 count during the second inning. Rojas drove in J.T. Realmuto with a sacrifice fly to center in the third.
New York(2-3) put up their only run in the contest during the bottom of the fifth. Lucas Duda homered to center field on a 1-1 pitch.
The Marlins extended their margin later in the game. Ozuna singled to right field which brought in Christian Yelich in the top of the seventh.
The Fish got two runs in the eighth inning. Realmuto singled to center field for Adeiny Hechavarria to score. Rojas followed with an infield sacrifice which scored Dee Gordon.
In the ninth inning, Gordon picked up an RBI on fielder's choice to second with Ozuna scoring. Realmuto extended their margin to 8-1 on a base hit to left that scored Ichiro.
