The Miami Marlins beat the Washington Nationals 4-3 in ten innings on Thursday at Nationals Park. The game did not start for eighty minutes due to a rain delay.
Washington(2-1) began strong in the bottom of the first against Marlins staring pitcher Tom Koehler. Newcomer Adam Eaton smashed a lead-off home run into right-center field to give them a 1-0 lead. Another rain delay would stop the contest again for one hour at the beginning of the sixth inning.
The Nationals added another run in the seventh inning for a two-run margin. Jayson Werth came to bat and blasted a solo homer to left field while Ryan Barraclough was pitching.
Miami(1-2) broke the shutout during the top of the eighth. J.T. Realmuto smacked a two-run homer to center with Christian Yelich on base.
The Nats matched in and regained the lead in the bottom of the frame as Ryan Zimmerman nailed a solo home run to center field. It was his second homer of the series.
The Fish came back and tied it in the ninth inning when Tyler Moore knocked in Adeiny Hechavarria with a base hit into center. The Marlins won it in the following inning as Justin Bour doubled to left field which brought in Realmuto.
