Panthers Shut Out Capitals

     The Florida Panthers played their season finale as they defeated the Washington Capitals 2-0 at Verizon Center on Sunday night. It completed the 24th season for the Panthers as a National Hockey League franchise.
     It was the second straight game that James Reimer picked up a shutout for the Cats. No Panthers goalie has done that since Tomas Vokoun in October 2010. Washington(55-19-8) will go on to face the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
     Florida(35-36-11) had to wait until late in the second period to take the lead. Derek MacKenzie raced down the ice and was able to score a shorthanded goal with 4:13 left in the frame off a pass from Colton Sceviour.
     The Panthers extended their margin to 2-0 at the 9:47 mark of the third period. Denis Malgin scored on assists from Reilly Smith and Nick Bjugstad.
