The Deerfield Beach Bucks host the Miramar Patriots in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal at Butler Stadium on Friday night. Both schools have been considered the top two Class 8A teams in Broward County for the past decade.
Miramar(6-4) finished in a three-way tie with Plantation and Western for first place in District 12, however they did not have the highest playoff points after a regular season finale loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. The Patriots began the season 0-3 with defeats to Miami Northwestern, American Heritage and Plantation. They were victorious in their next six games.
Deerfield Beach(9-1) were undefeated in the regular season after six games until a home loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. The Bucks have outscored their opponents 320-98 this year. They come into this contest with consecutive shutouts over District 11 rivals Monarch along with Piper and had a bye last week.
The Bucks intends to use running back Jaylan Knighton on most of their rushing attempts from the backfield. Quarterback Tyler Herring has a slew of wide receivers to threw the ball to which includes Dashaun Davis, Deajaun McDougle, Bryce Gowdy and DeRohn King.
