The Florida Panthers fell to the New York Rangers 4-2 at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. It was the third game of a six-game road trip for the Panthers.
Henrik Lundqvist moved past Jacques Plante for seventh all-time in wins by a goalie with 438. The Rangers won their fifth straight home game.
It took a short time for New York(10-8-2) to get on the scoreboard. Filip Chytil made it 1-0 on a goal at the 3:03 mark.
Florida(7-7-3) was able to tie it 1-1 at 4:49. Mike Hoffman scored his eighth goal of the season on assists from Evgenii Dadonov and Aleksander Barkov. Hoffman extended his franchise record point streak to 15 games. Dadonov had a point in 13 of the last 14 games.
The Panthers took their only lead of the contest on the power play with 9:49 to go in the first. Aaron Ekblad scored a goal in his third straight game. Mike Matheson and Hoffman were credited with assists on the play.
The Blueshirts evened it up 2-2 with 8:11 remaining in the period. Brendan Smith put in his second goal of the year.
In the second period, the Rangers pulled ahead again at 2:37. Mike Zibanejad was able to feed Vladislav Namestnikov for the tally.
They made it a two-goal margin with 12:04 left in the third period. Chris Kreider snapped a shot past Roberto Luongo with the man advantage.
