It is a rematch between two District 9 rivals as the Wellington Wolverines cross Forest Hill Boulevard and take on the Palm Beach Central Broncos on Friday night in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal. The Broncos pounded the Wolverines 52-10 in Week 4.
Wellington(6-4) have not been able to put together more than two straight wins this year. They suffered blowout losses to district champions Palm Beach Central, Vero Beach, Pahokee and Atlantic this season. The Wolverines barely got by Park Vista and Seminole Ridge by less than seven points. They have no momentum with a bye and a 42-3 defeat to Atlantic in the last two weeks.
The Wolverines may possibly have the best player in Palm Beach County with Marc-Antony Richards. He can play a various amount of positions which includes wide receiver, running back, wildcat quarterback, special teams returner and defensive back. Austin Wallace and Blake Kendall Jr. are two options at quarterback that Wellington has. Running back Jadien Durant can carry the ball and receive the ball as a slot receiver.
Palm Beach Central(9-1) have won nine consecutive games and their only blemish was an opening game loss to Atlantic. The Broncos have outscored opponents 377-71 this season and compiled four shutouts in 2018. They have not surrendered more than 14 points in a game this year. The team has two shutouts in the last three weeks over Jupiter and John I. Leonard.
The Broncos have a strong defense with Akeem Dent at defensive back to lead the way. Their offense can use Anarjahe Douriet or Mike Moreland at quarterback depending on the circumstance. They have numerous options at running back with Charles Stewart, Da'quan Hamilton, Tyler Willis and Derrick Cruickshank. Wide receivers Gen'Taris Oliver, Bryan Robinson, De'angelo Pompey, Kaishawn Curry and Kai Rosado expect to get pass receptions.
