The New York Mets toppled the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Marlins will finish their seven-game home stand on Wednesday.
New York(4-1) rocketed out with a five-run first inning. Wilson Ramos lined a base hit up the middle with the bases loaded to score Brandon Nimmo. Dominic Smith followed with an RBI-single to center field which scored Jeff McNeil. Amed Rosario came up next and doubled into left field for Michael Conforto and Ramos to cross the plate. It became 5-0 when Smith scored on a fielder's choice to second by Juan Lagares.
Miami(2-4) answered back quickly in the bottom of the first. Brian Anderson ripped a double to left field and Curtis Granderson scored on the play.
In the fifth inning, the Fish slowly closed the gap to 5-2. Starlin Castro smashed a solo homer to center field on the first pitch for his second home run of the season.
The Mets made it a four-run margin during the top of the seventh. Nimmo was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Ramos was able to score.
The Marlins responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lewis Brinson knocked in J.T. Riddle with a base hit into left field. Peter O'Brien then singled to left which brought in Jorge Alfaro.
They cut the deficit to 6-5 in the eighth inning. Riddle grounded out to first with the bases loaded and Granderson crossed the plate.
