The Miami Marlins returned home for a nine-game home stand and were slammed by the Philadelphia Phillies 9-1 at Marlins Park on Friday night. Bryce Harper made his first appearance in Miami with his new team. The Marlins have lost nine of their last 10 games.
Philadelphia(8-4) loaded the bases with none out in the first inning. They unfortunately did not score during that frame.
They waited until the fifth inning where they tacked on five runs. Harper knocked in Andrew McCutchen with a base hit into right-center field. Rhys Hoskins came up next and doubled to deep left field and Jean Segura scored. Former Marlins catcher J.T. Realmuto followed with a single to right field and Harper crossed the plate. Odubel Herrera then hit a double into the right-center field gap that scored Hoskins and Realmuto.
It became a six-run margin for the Phillies in the sixth inning. Realmuto was able to score on a base hit by Cesar Hernandez into right field.
Miami(3-11) got their only run in the seventh inning and cut the lead to 6-1. Austin Dean was called up from the minors and helped out in his first game of the season. He hit a sacrifice fly to left field for former Phillies player Jorge Alfaro to score.
The Phils answered back in the top of the eighth. Maikel Franco and Nick Williams scored on a three-run homer by McCutchen to center field.
