The Miami Heat began the second half of the regular season and played their first game ever in Brooklyn on Wednesday night as they cruised by the Nets 105-85 at Barclays Center. The Nets had played their home games in New Jersey for 35 seasons from 1977 until 2012. The Heat have won 11 straight games over the Nets on the road and 13 consecutive games overall.
After giving up the opening basket, Miami(29-13) went on an 18-6 spurt to lead by double digits. They would hold on to that margin after one quarter at 30-20. The Heat had a 41-29 lead with 7:30 remaining in the second quarter. New Jersey(27-19) bounced back with a 20-8 run at the end of the first half to tie the game 49-49 at halftime.
The Nets led 55-53 with 9:18 left in the third quarter, but then Miami went on a 32-8 run. The Heat outscored Brooklyn 36-14 in the period and were ahead 85-63 after three quarters. Brooklyn came no closer than 17 points behind in the fourth quarter.
LeBron James led Miami, who have won four of their last five games, with 24 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes. Dwyane Wade came through with 21 points in 34 minutes while Chris Bosh nailed 16 points in 36 minutes. Mario Chalmers added 11 points in 25 minutes.
Brook Lopez headed Brooklyn with 21 points and seven rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Nets reserve Andray Blatche scored 12 points in 24 minutes and Joe Johnson contributed 16 points with six assists in 37 minutes.
