The NHL lockout between the owners and players is at an end as both sides have agreed to a tentative agreement on Sunday. After the NHL Players Association and NHL owners approve the deal, training camp will began next week. The NHL regular season will consist of between 48 to 50 games for each team and is expected to start before January 20.
The Florida Panthers are the defending Southeast Division champions and will defend the title in the upcoming season. The team will raise a banner to the rafters of the BB&T Center prior to their first home game of the NHL season. The Panthers will face clubs only in the Eastern Conference this coming season.
The National Hockey League played a 48-game schedule in 1994-95 after a lockout as teams played games in their own conference during the regular season. It is likely that a similar arrangement will happen this season. The NHL did not play and lost a season in 2004-05 due to a lockout.
