The Florida Panthers fell for the second straight game as they lost to the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Friday night at BB&T Center. Roberto Luongo passed former Panthers goalie Ed Belfour for fourth all-time in NHL history with 964 games played.
Florida(28-22-10) pulled out to a 1-0 lead on the power play at 4:54 of the first period. Jussi Jokinen made a pass from the slot to Nick Bjugstad in the low left circle and he connected with a snap shot by Chad Johnson for his fifth goal of the campaign.
Calgary(32-26-4) begin a string of three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 margin. Michael Stone fired a slapshot from the right point which was stopped in front. Sam Bennett put in the rebound by Luongo from the crease area at 8:57.
The Flames took the lead Mikael Backlund performed a give-and-go pass from Matthew Tkachuk and scored from the high slot with a wrist shot at the 10:16 mark. Calgary made it a two-goal cushion when Deryk Engelland backhanded the puck in from the right side of the crease following a Tkachuk shot from the top left circle at 13:51.
The Panthers struck back with 2:40 remaining in the first. Aleksander Barkov connected a pass to Jonathan Huberdeau on the right side and got a return pass. Barkov snapped a shot from the low slot for his 16th goal of the season.
In the second period, Calgary increased their lead at 6:19. Lance Bouma poked the puck from behind the Panthers cage to Matt Stajan in the left corner. He centered it to Troy Brouwer along in the crease and he scored from in close.
