2018 FHSAA Playoffs State Semifinal Results

The FHSAA playoffs had their state semifinals held throughout the state of Florida on Friday night. Nine South Florida high schools participated in this round.
The only contest that had two local teams face each other was in Class 8A. Columbus went on the road and knocked off Deerfield Beach 49-21. It was the second time in three years that the Bucks fell at home in a state semifinal.
The Class 7A state semifinal had two squads that had combined to capture the state title for the past four years. St. Thomas Aquinas gained revenge as they beat Venice 38-18. STA had there three-year reign as champions end last year in Venice. It was the third straight season that both high schools met in the fourth round. The Raiders will try to get their fourth state championship in the past five seasons and their eighth overall in the past 12 seasons next week.
It turned to be not close as Miami Northwestern disposed of Naples 40-7 in the Class 6A state semifinal. Miami Northwestern won their fourth straight road game during the postseason and now will attempt to win their second straight state championship. The Bulls accomplished that feat back in 2006 and 2007.
Cardinal Gibbons got one step closer to winning a state championship as they defeated Jesuit 14-3 in a state semifinal. It has been their season so far for the Chiefs after stopping the two-time defending Class 5A state champions and district rival American Heritage twice this year.
It was deja vu for University School as they travelled to Cocoa and were edged 32-31 in the Class 4A state semifinal. The Sharks ended their season in the same exact way last year in Cocoa.
The defending Class 3A state champions Chaminade-Madonna went to Clearwater Central Catholic and shut them out 13-0 in one state semifinal. The Lions will be playing in their third straight championship game. Kings Academy went on the road and barely got by Florida State University High 49-48 in the other state semifinal. TKA will challenge Chaminade-Madonna next week for the state title in the only contest involving two South Florida high schools against each other.
Champagnat Catholic kept their title reign alive as the defending Class 2A state champions topped Admiral Farragut 24-20 in the state semifinal. They will be looking for another state title next week.
