The Miami Northwestern Bulls take on the Armwood Hawks in the FHSAA Class 6A state championship at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on Saturday. Both schools have won their share of state titles over the past 12 years.
Miami Northwestern(9-5) are the defending Class 6A state champions. They will try and match their two straight title runs from 2006 and 2007. The Bulls have played all their postseason games on the road and are use to the travel. They disposed of Mainland 31-16 in the regional quarterfinal, defeated Heritage 31-19 in the regional semifinal, shocked Miami Central 19-15 in the regional final and smashed Naples 40-7 in the state semifinal. They have averaged 29 points in their last six games.
Isaiah Velez is expected to start at quarterback for the Bulls and Kemani Brown can fill in depending on the circumstance. Running back Nathaniel Noel will get the majority of carries from the backfield while Javas Jackson and Timothy Burns could see some action. Wide receivers Jacquez Stuart, Romello Brinson, Sean Delaughter, Dwight Jackson and Rayquan Berry look to catch passes downfield from Velez.
Armwood(13-1) enters the game on a 13-game winning streak. The Hawks have outscored their last 10 opponents 437-84 and compiled four shutouts. They shut out South Lake 54-0 in a regional quarterfinal, pounded Lake Weir 65-7 in a regional semifinal, handled Vanguard 31-6 in a regional final and beat Crestview 35-22 in a state semifinal. Quarterback Cam'ron Ransom will lead the Hawks offense.
