Seven teams from South Florida advanced to play in FHSAA state championship games next week at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. There were nine high schools entering the state semifinals.
All three remaining teams from Dade County moved on. They include Columbus, Miami Northwestern and Champagnat Catholic. Two of them are defending FHSAA state champions.
Broward County had three squads advance to the final round. St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons and Chaminade-Madonna head off to Orlando. Deerfield Beach and University School lost in the state semifinal.
Only one high school from Palm Beach County played in a state semifinal. Kings Academy was victorious and is one step away from a state title.
