Marlins Avoid Sweep To Diamondbacks

The Miami Marlins prevented a three-game series sweep on Wednesday as they beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-3 at Chase Field. The Marlins return home on Friday and take on the Milwaukee Brewers.
Miami(14-17) launched out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Joey Wendle powered a two-run homer to right field on a 1-1 pitch with Garrett Cooper aboard. It was the second home run of the season for Wendle.
The Marlins opened up a three-run lead in the top of the second. Jacob Stallings knocked in Jesus Sanchez on a base hit into left field.
Arizona(17-15) cut it to 3-1 in the bottom of the third. Alek Thomas lifted a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch for his first home run of the campaign.
The Diamondbacks tied it up 3-3 in the eighth inning. Jordan Luplow bashed a two-run homer on a 0-0 count over the left-center field wall with Thomas scoring in front of him. It was Luplow's fourth home run this season.
In the ninth inning, Miami compiled eight runs to go ahead 11-3. Stallings drove in Sanchez with a single to center field. Jazz Chisholm Jr. followed with a three-run homer to left-center field on a 1-1 pitch scoring Bryan De La Cruz and Stallings for a 7-3 lead. It turned out to be Chisholm's sixth home run in 2022.
Erik Gonzalez later singled into left field to score Garrett Cooper. Avisail Garcia capped the onslaught with a three-run home run to center field on a 2-2 count for his second homer of the season. Jorge Soler and Gonzalez also crossed the plate on the play to make it 11-3.
