Panthers Press On Flyers

     The Florida Panthers wore down the Philadelphia Flyers 7-5 at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night. The Panthers now have a five-game point streak. 
     Florida(16-9-2) scooted to a 1-0 lead at the 2:36 mark. Eetu Luostarinen touched the puck and Anton Lundell poked it ahead from his own zone. Evan Rodrigues brought the puck up from the neutral zone and into the left circle. He put in a forehand shot from the left of the crease by Ivan Fedotov for his seventh goal this year. 
     The Cats got up 2-0 at 6:58. Jesper Boqvist cycled the puck from the left corner to Matthew Tkachuk on the end wall. He backhanded a pass and Niko Mikkola released a wrist shot from above the left circle for his second tally in 2024-25. 
     Tkachuk extended his point streak to five games. The Flyers replaced Fedotov with Aleksei Kolosov in net at the conclusion of the first. 
     In the second period, the Panthers increased it to a three-goal margin 3-0 with the man advantage at 3:00. Tkachuk made a backhand pass from the right wing and Sam Reinhart guided a blind backhand pass from the low right circle. Aleksander Barkov faked and then lifted a backhand shot from the crease area for his seventh goal of the season. Barkov now has a five-game point streak. 
     Philadelphia(12-11-3) broke the shutout on the power play at the 7:25 mark and were down 3-1. Matvei Michkov sent a diagonal pass from above the right circle and it rebounded off the right skate of Joel Farabee in the crease. Tyson Forester got the tally on a backhand shot from the right of the crease past Spencer Knight for his sixth goal of the year. 
     The Flyers closed it to 3-2 with 10:29 remaining in the second. Luostarinen turned the puck over on an outlet pass to the middle of the ice. Nick Seeler intercepted it and snapped a shot from the inner left circle for his second goal this season.  
     Florida converted on a power play and regained a two-goal gap 4-2 with 6:25 to go. Barkov pushed the puck from the right wing. Tkachuk took a shot from the right-circle dot which was saved. Carter Verhaeghe slipped a wrist shot from the right goal line for his eighth tally on the year. 
     Former Panthers player Owen Tippett compiled two goals on the same shift in 25 seconds for Philadelphia to tie it up 4-4. Michkov got to a loose puck in the high slot and angled a pass. Tippett scored on a snap shot from the low left circle with 2:19 left. 
     They struck quickly with 1:56 remaining in the second. Michkov caught the puck at the Panthers blue line and placed it ahead. Tippett skated into the right circle and had his first shot saved. He followed up with a forehand shot from the top of the crease and collected his seventh goal this season. 
     It became 5-4 for the Flyers at the 5:39 mark of the third period. Garnet Hathaway collected his third goal this year as he steered the puck in from the blue paint. 
     The Panthers evened it up 5-5 on a 4-on-4 situation with 5:17 remaining in the third. Rodrigues won the faceoff in the right circle. Sam Bennett passed it back from the right wing. Gustav Forsling fired a slap shot from the right point for his fourth goal of the campaign and his 50th goal of his NHL career. 
     Florida got a power-play goal with 1:59 to go in the game. Reinhart followed on a rebound and shot the puck into the cage from the left circle for his NHL-leading 19th goal of the season. Verhaeghe and Ekblad were credited with assists on the play. 
     The Cats added another power-play goal near the conclusion of the game. Tkachuk added an empty-net goal from the left wing with 10.8 seconds left in the third period for his second straight four-point game.
