Miami Heat forward LeBron James captured his fourth NBA Most Valuable Player Award on Sunday. It was the second straight year that he won the honor and the fourth time in the last five years. James won the MVP with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2008-09 and 2009-10 along with the Miami Heat in 2011-12 and 2012-13. He becomes the youngest player at age 28 to win the award on four different occasions.
James joins elite company as he became the fifth player with at least four NBA Most Valuable Player trophies. All the other players which includes Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Jordan have been elected into the Basketball Hall Of Fame. James and Russell are the only players to win the honor four times in a five-year stretch.
He fell one vote short of a unanimous decision as he got 120 of 121 first-place media votes. James led the Heat to the second longest regular season winning streak in NBA history as they won 27 consecutive games. He averaged 26.8 points, a career-high eight rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. James also set career highs with a field goal shooting percentage of 56.5 and three-point field goal percentage of 40.6.
