The San Diego Padres got by the Miami Marlins with a 1-0 shutout at Petco Park on Wednesday and swept the Fish in a three-game series. The Marlins, who scored one run in their last three games, swept the Padres last season in San Diego.
San Diego(16-18) picked up the only run in the ballgame during the sixth inning. Will Venable had an infield hit with one out and Chase Headley followed with a single into right field. After Carlos Quentin walked to load the bases, Venable scored on a Yonder Alonso sacrifice fly to left field.
Miami(10-25) starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco went seven innings, allowed one run on four hits and struck out nine. His record dropped to 2-4 this season. Jason Marquis pitched eight shutout innings and gave up five hits to raise his record to 4-2.
