The Miami Marlins lost their third straight game as they were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins dropped to 3-11 on the road this season.
Philadelphia(14-16) picked up two runs in the second inning. Ryan Howard cracked a lead-off solo home run to right field off Ricky Nolasco on a 2-0 pitch for his fifth homer this season. Two batters later, Carlos Ruiz singled to center then stole second. He scored on a single to right field by Ben Revere.
The Phillies added an additional run in the third inning. Chase Utley began the frame with a solo homer on the pitch to right-center field for his sixth home run of the season.
Donovan Solano broke the shutout by Jonathan Pettibone for Miami(8-22) in the fourth inning as he socked a lead-off solo home run to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch. It was his first round-tripper of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth, Domonic Brown smashed a lead-off solo home run to right field on a 3-2 pitch for his fifth dinger of the season.
Nolasco went six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits as he fell to 2-3 this season. Pettibone got his second win of the season as he gave up one run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.
