The Miami Marlins combined for a one-hitter as they shut out the Philadelphia Phillies 2-0 at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday night. The Fish snapped a three-game losing streak as they were held to four hits on offense.
Jose Fernandez pitched seven innings for the Marlins, allowed just one hit and struck out a career-high nine batters for the win. He captured his first major league victory and improved to 1-2. Cole Hamels dropped to 1-4 this season for Philadelphia(14-17) as he gave up two runs on four hits in eight innings pitched.
Two players for Miami(9-22) picked up their first major league home runs. Marcell Ozuna led off the second inning with a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch. He also got his first career RBI in that situation. Chris Valaika ripped a one-out home run to center field on a 1-0 pitch in the third inning.
