The Fort Lauderdale Strikers were eliminated by the Chicago Fire 3-0 in a quarterfinal of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Toyota Park on Wednesday night. The Strikers went further in the national club tournament than ever in franchise history as they defeated Major League Soccer clubs DC United and Orlando City SC in June.
Chicago tallied two goals in the first half and pulled out to the lead. David Accam put in a penalty kick five minutes in and Michael de Leeuw scored from close range during the 30th minute. The Strikers surrendered another goal following a corner kick in the 51st minute as Khaly Thiam finished the play.
