The Florida Panthers resigned defenseman Aaron Ekblad to an eight-year, $60 million contract extension. He is signed with the club through the 2024-25 season. The team now have a core of players that include Aleksander Barkov, Nick Bjugstad, Keith Yandle and Roberto Luongo signed for at least the next five years.
Ekblad helped the Panthers win the Atlantic Division title in 2015-16 and their second division title in franchise history. He had 15 goals and 21 assists in 78 games last season. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as a rookie in 2014-15 when he compiled 12 goals and 27 assists in 81 games played.
