Joe Angel Retires

Former Florida Marlins radio and television play-by-play announcer Joe Angel is retiring. He was in the final year of a contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
Angel was the first lead radio play-by-play announcer of the Florida Marlins when he joined the organization in 1993. He called the Marlins first World Series championship in 1997 alongside current Boston Red Sox television play-by-play announcer Dave O' Brien.
Both added and split the role as play-by-play announcers on television when they replaced Jay Randolph after the 1996 season. Angel would stay with the Florida Marlins until 2000.
Angel has worked as a radio play-by-play announcer for several different organizations in Major League Baseball. He was with the San Francisco Giants from 1977 to 1978 and the Minnesota Twins from 1984 to 1986.
He had three stints with the Baltimore Orioles. They include from 1988 to 1990, 1992 and from 2004 to 2018. Angel had a one-year stop with the New York Yankees in 1991 and another two-year reign with the San Francisco Giants in 2002 and 2003. He did call baseball games on ESPN in 2001.
