Three former South Florida high school players were on the New England Patriots team that won Super Bowl LIII over the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday night. Running back James White, running back Sony Michel and wide receiver Phillip Dorsett were on the winning side.
It was the third Super Bowl title for White in the last five seasons. He was on the winning side with New England when he scored the game-ending touchdown in overtime over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. White went to St. Thomas Aquinas and contributed to the Raiders FHSAA Class 5A state championships in 2007 and 2008. He attended the University of Wisconsin and was drafted by the Patriots in 2014.
Michel scored the go-ahead touchdown for the Pats in the fourth quarter to make it 10-3. He had 18 carries for 94 yards in the contest. Michel went to American Heritage in Plantation and helped the Patriots win one FHSAA Class 5A state championship in 2013. He then played college football for the University of Georgia Bulldogs and lost to the University of Alabama Crimson Tide in the CFP title game last year.
Dorsett won his first Super Bowl title this season. He was on the Patriots team that lost last year to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. Dorsett played for the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and captured two FHSAA Class 5A state titles with them in 2008 and 2010. He then attended the University of Miami and played with the Hurricanes for four seasons. Dorsett was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts, played two seasons there and was traded to New England for former Dwyer Panthers quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
