Panthers End Flames

     The Florida Panthers slipped by the Calgary Flames 3-2 in a shootout at BB&T Center on Thursday night. The Panthers, who stopped a two-game losing streak, are in the middle of a stretch during February in which they play 11 of 12 games at home. The Flames are now on a season-high four-game winless streak.
     After a scoreless first, Florida(24-24-8) made it 1-0 with 4:33 left in the second period. Mike Hoffman dropped a pass to Mark Pysyk at the top of the zone and his wrist shot was deflected in the crease by Evgenii Dadonov past Mike Smith. It was the 20th goal for Dadonov this season.
     Calgary(34-16-7) tied the contest 1-1 at the 6:51 mark of the third. Noah Hanifin carried the puck through the neutral zone and into the left circle of the Panthers zone. He dropped it off and Mark Jankowski and he snapped a shot from the top left circle by James Reimer.
     The Panthers regained the lead 2-1 with 8:01 remaining in the period. Vincent Trocheck won a right-circle faceoff and Keith Yandle angled a pass from the blue line to Mike Hoffman on the right wing. He skated a couple of feet and ripped a high wrist shot for his team-high 26th goal of the campaign.
     The Flames were able to tie it again with 2:24 to go. Johnny Gaudreau placed a pass from the right wing to the top and Rasmus Andersson blasted a one-time slapshot. Elias Lindholm was able to deflect the puck in from the crease area.
     The game went into a shootout and Florida got the victory. After Jonathan Huberdeau missed on a forehand, Sean Monahan scored on the Flames first attempt as he faked and put in a forehand shot. Aleksander Barkov made the second attempt for the Panthers when he went to his backhand and roofed in a shot. Andrew Mangiapane was stopped on a forehand shot in response for Calgary. On the third attempt, Vincent Trocheck released a high wrist shot for the tally and Matthew Tkachuk failed with a backhand shot to end the contest.
