Baseball Playoffs Expands To 16 Teams

Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred announced on Thursday night that the 2020 postseason will be expanded to 16 teams. MLB had the amount of playoff clubs at ten since the 2012 season.
Eight teams will be in the playoffs for both the American League and National League. The teams that will qualify from both leagues will be all three division winners, three second place clubs and the next two teams with the best records.
There will no longer be any first-round byes. The seedings in both leagues will be from the first seed to the eighth seed. The division winners and the fourth seed will host all three games of a three-game series during the first round.
