Gord Murphy Joins New York Rangers

     Former Florida Panthers defenseman and assistant coach Gord Murphy has joined the New York Rangers as an assistant coach on a temporary basis. Murphy was an associate coach for the Rangers American Hockey League affiliate the Hartford Wolfpack earlier this season. 
     He will work the Rangers upcoming qualifying best-of-five series against the Carolina Hurricanes in Toronto. Murphy replaces former Florida Panthers assistant coach Lindy Ruff, who was recently named the new head coach of the New Jersey Devils. 
     Murphy played for the Florida Panthers during their first six seasons in the National Hockey League from 1993-94 to 1998-99. He also was an assistant coach for the club from 2010-11 until 2013-14. Murphy had a 14-year NHL career with the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers and Columbus Blue Jackets. 
     He has previous stints as an assistant coach in the NHL. Murphy was with the Columbus Blue Jackets from 2002-03 to 2009-10 and the Philadelphia Flyers from 2014-15 to 2018-19.
