Eury Perez Debuts, Reds Topple Marlins

Miami Marlins starting pitcher Eury Perez made his Major League Baseball debut as the Fish lost to the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 at loanDepot park on Friday night. Perez went 4 2/3 innings, had seven strikeouts and allowed two runs on four hits.
Perez became the second youngest player in Marlins franchise history to make his Major League Baseball debut. Former Florida Marlins shortstop Edgar Renteria made his MLB debut with the team as 19 years and 277 days.
It turned out that Perez is the youngest pitcher to strike out at least seven batters during his debut in the majors. David Clyde last did it for the Texas Rangers in 1973 when he was 18 years old.
Cincinnati(17-21) had a 1-0 lead during the top of the fourth. Tyler Stephenson walloped a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch for his second homer of the year.
Miami(19-20) tied it up 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Bryan De La Cruz doubled into left-center field for Luis Arraez to score.
The Reds reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the fifth inning. Jake Fraley powered a solo homer to right-center field on the first pitch for his third home run of the season.
The Marlins leaped over their opponent in the bottom of the frame to go up 3-2. Joey Wendle first scored on a passed ball. Jazz Chisholm Jr. then homered to right-center field on a 1-2 pitch for his sixth home run in 2023.
It became 4-2 for the Fish in the sixth inning. Peyton Burdick blasted a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-2 count for his first homer of the campaign.
In the seventh inning, the Red Legs managed to tie it 4-4. Spencer Steer knocked in Stuart Fairchild and Fraley on a double into the left-field corner.
Cincinnati compiled three runs in the ninth inning for a 7-4 advantage. Fraley picked up his second home run of the contest on a 1-1 count to right field. Fairchild and Jose Barrero scored in front of him on the play.
