Mike Piazza Trade 25th Anniversary

Monday was the 25th anniversary of the Mike Piazza trade by the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Florida Marlins. Piazza was dealt in a seven-player trade from the Dodgers to the Marlins on May 15, 1998. He and Todd Zeile were acquired while Gary Sheffield, Bobby Bonilla, Charles Johnson, Jim Eisenreich and Manuel Barrios were sent to Los Angeles.
Piazza spent just one week in a Marlins uniform. He had five runs batted in and a .278 batting average in five games with the Marlins. Piazza was traded to the New York Mets for Preston Wilson, Ed Yarnall and Geoff Goetz on May 22, 1998.
He would help the Mets win the 2000 National League championship and reach the World Series for the first time in 14 years. Piazza hit a famous go-ahead home run against the Atlanta Braves in the first baseball game played after the September 11 attacks on the United States. He eventually was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2016.
