Dontrelle Willis, known as the D-Train, announced his retirement from baseball on Monday. He was named the 2003 National League Rookie of the Year as he went 14-6 with 142 strikeouts. Willis helped the Florida Marlins take the wild-card playoff spot and win the World Series over the New York Yankees in six games. He finished second for the National League Cy Young Award in 2005 when he was 22-10 with 170 strikeouts and a 2.63 ERA for his best season in the majors. Along with wins, he also led the league with seven complete games and five shutouts.
Following a disappointing season with the team in 2007, he was traded with Miguel Cabrera to the Detroit Tigers in an eight-player deal. Willis played three seasons there but never recovered the form he once had with the Marlins. He also played with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds later in his career.
