Panthers Lose Garrison, Samuelsson

On the first day of free agency in the NHL on Sunday, the Florida Panthers lost two players who helped the team win their first division title in franchise history. Jason Garrison, who was a first-line defenseman, signed a six-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks. He has played the last four seasons with the Cats. He had a career-high 16 goals, 17 assists and 33 points in 77 games last season, which included nine power-play goals.
Right wing Mikael Samuelsson has rejoined the Detroit Red Wings where he won a Stanley Cup in 2007-08. The Florida Panthers acquired him from the Vancouver Canucks in early 2011-12. He had 13 goals and 28 points in 48 games with the Panthers last season. Samuelsson also had a previous one-year stint with Florida back in 2003-04.
