Henderson Alvarez pitched a six-hit complete game shutout as the Miami Marlins held on to beat the New York Mets 3-0 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. He had seven strikeouts and improved his record to 2-2. Bartolo Colon fell to 2-5 as he allowed three runs on five hits in seven innings pitched.
Miami(18-15), who moved their home record to 16-5 this season, jumped on Colon in the first inning as they compiled two runs. After Christian Yelich grounded out to the pitcher, Derek Dietrich was hit by a pitch. He scored on a double to deep center field by Giancarlo Stanton for a 1-0 lead. Casey McGehee followed with a base hit into right field to knock in Stanton.
New York(16-16) fell three run down during the fifth inning as the Marlins got a two-out rally. Dietrich singled to left center and advanced to third on a base hit by Stanton into right. McGehee then drove in Dietrich on a single to center field.
