The Miami Marlins began a short six-game road trip and were shut out by the Chicago Cubs 2-0 at Wrigley Field on Monday night. Ichiro Suzuki entered as a pinch-hitter for Miami(57-49) in the seventh inning and was hitless to remain at 2,998 career hits.
With Adam Conley pitching for the Marlins, Chicago(64-41) got out to a 2-0 lead during the first inning when Addison Russell singled into right field which scored Dexter Fowler and Anthony Rizzo.
The Cubs added two more runs against Dustin McGowan in the fifth inning. Kyle Hendricks knocked in Wilson Contreras with a base hit to shallow left field and Fowler followed with a sacrifice fly toward center as Matt Szczur crossed the plate.
