The Fort Lauderdale Strikers traveled up to St. Petersburg and lost to the Tampa Bay Rowdies 2-1 in the traditional Florida Derby match between both squads at Al Lang Stadium on Saturday night. The Strikers dropped to last place in the NASL fall season standings.
The game remained scoreless after 45 minutes as Fort Lauderdale(1-5-1) was unable to score in the first half for the seventh consecutive game in all competitions. Tampa Bay(2-3-2) scored two quick goals early in the second half by Keith Savage with a tight shot in the 50th minute and former English Premier League player Joe Cole with a blast during the 58th minute. The Strikers cut the margin to 2-1 in the 71st minute as Jose Angulo put in a tally.
